Therapeutic monitoring of phenothiazine therapy for psychotic disorders is limited
because of an inability to consistently correlate plasma levels with clinical outcome.
However, laboratories should have a method available to assist clinicians in determining
compliance or in diagnosing toxicity. It is hoped that better methods for measuring
these agents in body fluids and tissues will elucidate effective therapeutic monitoring
of phenothiazines.
