Organization of a Laboratory Service for Therapeutic Drug Monitoring

      A laboratory service for therapeutic drug monitoring is designed to measure plasma drug levels in order to achieve optimal therapeutic effect and to avoid toxic effect. After deciding which drugs should be measured, equipment, supply, personnel, and space requirements must be considered. The careful design of the request form and an ongoing quality control program are other critical factors in the successful organization and continuation of a laboratory service.
