Blood Transfusion in Heart Surgery

      During the past three decades, hemotherapy and cardiopulmonary bypass techniques have changed drastically in conjunction with advances in open heart surgery. Today, an active cardiovascular service exerts an unyielding influence on the activities of the supporting blood bank and transfusion service. Hematologic alterations and blood transfusion requirements of patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery are discussed.
