      Monoclonal antibodies have demonstrated a high degree of sensitivity and specificity in the diagnosis of the sexually transmitted diseases Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, herpes simplex virus, Treponema pallidum, and Trichomonas vaginalis. Specific antibodies have been conjugated with fluorescein isothiocyanate and tested in culture confirmation and direct diagnosis on clinical specimens utilizing immunofluorescence slide tests. Using these monoclonal antibody reagents, rapid differential diagnosis of infection is now possible.
