      This article reviews commercially available electrophoresis methods and instrumentation for clinical laboratory use. The most common electrophoresis support media found in the clinical laboratory today are cellulose acetate and agarose gel. The greater resolution found in agarose, coupled with newer techniques such as immunofixation, makes protein electrophoresis a very valuable and cost-effective tool.
