Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) has profound effects on the human immune system.
Immunologic manifestations of HIV infection vary widely, however. This article reviews
the changes in immunity caused by HIV infection, outlines methods for performing the
most useful immunologic tests, and provides guidelines for interpreting test results.
