Integrins are a family of cell surface receptors that mediate cell-substrate and cell-cell
interactions. They also potentiate an interaction with the cell cytoskeleton, promoting
cell shape and migratory behavior. These events are crucial to normal cell development,
differentiation, and migration. Integrins, however, also play a major role in conditions
such as cancer, thrombosis, and inflammation. There-rore, in orcier to gam a basic
understanding oi these biologic processes, it is imperative to investigate the structural,
functional, and biologic properties of integrins.
