Radiopharmaceuticals can be used to rapidly and accurately quantitate global and individual glomerular filtration rates (GFR) and effective renal plasma flow without the need for continuous infusion techniques, bladder catheterization, or 24-hour urine collections. The various techniques may involve multiple blood samples, one or two blood samples, and even imaging techniques that require no blood to quantitate renal function.
