      Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder characterized by dry eyes and dry mouth. These symptoms may exist in association with other autoimmune disorders (secondary Sjogren's) or as a primary disorder. However, there is considerable confusion about the criteria for diagnosis. For our clinical and basic research purposes, we suggest that the diagnosis be limited to patients focal lymphoid infiltrates and characteristic autoantibodies.
